For more than 14 years, Okaw Valley High School has provided students with the opportunity to attend Heartland Tech Academy, located on the campus of Richland Community College. Over the years, our students have had the chance to explore a wide variety of career and technical programs, including welding, auto body, automotive technology, cosmetology, culinary arts, engineering, and many others. These hands-on experiences allow students to discover their interests, develop valuable skills, and begin preparing for their futures while they are still in high school. One of the biggest benefits is that students can earn both high school and college credit, giving them a head start on their post-secondary education and careers. We are incredibly proud of all of our Okaw Valley Tech Kids! Their willingness to learn, work with their hands, explore career opportunities, and take advantage of these programs is something to celebrate. These students are building skills today that can open doors for them tomorrow! Pictures provided by Mr. Snearly (85' Bethany Graduate) he is the Auto Tech teacher at HTA.

Mr. Webner’s Civics class recently took part in a hands-on lesson focused on the proper procedures for handling and displaying the American flag. Students learned that the flag is more than just a national symbol—it represents the history, freedoms, sacrifices, and ideals of our country. The U.S. flag has a long and meaningful history. Its 13 stripes represent the original 13 colonies, while the 50 stars represent the 50 states. The flag has been a symbol of our nation through times of war, celebration, triumph, and tragedy. The current design dates to July 4, 1960, following the addition of Hawaii as the 50th state. Students learned the importance of treating the flag with dignity and respect, including proper ways to carry, fold, display, and care for it. These lessons are outlined through the Federal Flag Code and help reinforce the significance behind the traditions surrounding Old Glory. Great job, Mr. Webner and our Civics students! 🇺🇸 This is a great example of taking learning beyond the textbook and giving students an opportunity to understand the history and responsibility behind an important American symbol.
