Raymond Wierman Labor Essay Contest – ($500.00) Contest is sponsored by the Mideastern Illinois Labor Council (MILC). Contest is open to students within the Okaw Valley School who are college-bound high school juniors or seniors or are currently enrolled in an institution of higher education. Eligibility is restricted to union members (current, former, retired) and their children and grandchildren. Interested students shall submit a 4-6 page, double-spaced essay on the topic: Describe one benefit brought to workers by the American labor movement and how that benefit came about. CEFS Economic Opportunity Corporation Scholarship – At least one scholarship will be offered in Shelby and Moultrie Counties. Family must meet income eligibility guidelines. Application deadline is Friday, May 16, 2008 at 4:00 PM. Applications available in the guidance office.
The American Legion does a publication called ""Need A Lift?" each year! This publication is now available online. There is a great deal of information about financial aid and scholarships in this publication. Also available are applications for the following Illinois and National American Legion scholarships: ADA Muclestone Memorial; Illinois Scholarship for Junior Members, Mildred R.
