Mission Statement: Okaw Valley Middle School is committed to assisting in the transition of our students from the elementary to secondary school academically, physically, and socially.

Students of the Month:         6th Grade: Andrew Sims and Emily Scott    
                                                7th Grade: Eldon Yeakel and Lisa Stevens
                                                8th Grade: Courtney Carlson and Joe Ellis
 
Solo/Ensemble Contest-Our students participated in solo/ensemble contest at Mt. Zion on April 19th. We had one of the highest total entries of any school there and our students performed very well. Congratulations to all students that performed.
 
 
Athletic Banquet-The winter athletic banquet was held on April 16th and the accomplishments of the boys’ basketball teams, girls’ basketball teams, volleyball teams, and cheerleaders were recognized. 
 
 
CONGRATULATIONS!!-The middle school Scholastic Bowl team placed 2nd at the Conference tournament on April 4th
 
 
Track!!-The middle school track season is well underway. The team is off to a great start and has had a lot of individual and team success with the 8th grade girls placing 2nd at the Deland-Weldon Invitational and the 7th grade girls placing 3rd. The conference, sectional, and state track meets will be coming up the first part of May.
 
 
8th Grade Recognition!!-8th Grade Recognition will be Tuesday, May 13th at 7:00 in the MS Gym. We encourage everyone to attend as we honor the achievements of this year’s 8th grade class.
 
 
Lunch Charges-After May 1, 2007, we will only be able to allow 1 charge on lunches. If lunch money is not received after that, a PBJ will be provided for the student. Call the office in early May to get an update on your child’s charges or if they have credit available. No exceptions can be made on the 1 charge only policy.

Reminder to 6th Grade Parents: State law now requires that the school needs a copy of each 6th grade students dental exam for this year on file by the end of the school year. According to our records we still need forms for many of our students. If you need to check on this please call the office at 756-8521.
 
 
Physical Clinics-The Shelby County Health Department will be conducting physicals at the middle school on May 28th. Pre work-up will be done from 10:00-11:00 and the physicals will begin at 1:00. The price will be $15.
 
 
CONGRATULATIONS!!-Don Keown was selected as one of the winners of the Education is the Key award for his hard work and dedication to schools. He was one of only 18 winners selected from our region. Congratulations Don and thank you for everything you do for our schools and our students.
