OKAW VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL
SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT GOALS
GOAL 1: Okaw Valley high school students will be better prepared in the core curricular areas to be successful in math, reading, and science.
Action Plan
· Students in their 9, 10 and 11th years will apply math, reading, and science skills through the Work Keys program during regular classroom instruction.
· Students who test below benchmark standards with the Discovery Education screener will receive tier 2 (small group) interventions to improve their reading comprehension and math skills.
· OVHS will use Cambridge Educational Services to administer pre-assessment exams (2nd year) and post-intervention exams, as well as providing staff with lesson plans and other resources to implement a rigorous 2nd semester ACT/PSAE prep program for 11th grade students.
Goal 2: Members of the 2010 junior class will improve their PSAE meets and exceeds scores to 77% in reading.
Acton Plan
· English 1, 2, and 3 curriculums will incorporate components of the ACT/PSAE test preparation into weekly lesson plans.
· Tier 2 and tier 3 reading interventions will be administered during Academic Achievement cycles to 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students.
· Technology--Staff will continue to grow as professionals and implement differentiated instruction within block classroom instruction regard to English/Reading instruction including continued SMART Board utilization increasing time on task.
Goal 3: Members of the 2010 junior class will increase previous PSAE meets and exceeds scores to 77% in math.
Acton Plan
· An emphasis on funneling freshman into Alg 1 as their foundational math course will begin. Only when freshman exceed in math on their 8th grade EXPLORE will a geometry placement be considered. We will also co-teach Alg 1 as the schedule allows.
· Tier 2 and tier 3 interventions will be administered during Academic Achievement cycles to 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students.
· Staff will continue to grow as professionals and implement differentiated instruction within block classroom instruction regard to math instruction including continued SMART Board utilization increasing time on task.
Goal 4: Okaw Valley High School will continue to emphasize activities that improve school pride, increase curriculum relevancy, engage students in their own learning, and celebrate excellence in our student as well as staff efforts.
Action Plan
· “Okaw Valley Travels the Path to Success” will become a student led effort to schedule character education assemblies, provide a PBIS platform, and increase the collective student voice.
· We will seek to improve our ability to meaningful assess post graduation readiness for our graduates that choose to continue their education or enter the workforce. The School Improvement Team will assist the guidance department in creating a post-graduate survey to be administered initially to the class of 2010.
· Our Guidance Department will continue to actively share the vision of goal setting, planning, and post-secondary preparation to facilitate the ability of our graduates to have numerous choices.
Goal 5: Okaw Valley High School will attain an attendance rate of 95% school-wide.
Action Plan
· A continual emphasis on attendance and short-term attendance incentives will be a regular part of operations.
